Adventures of Elite Girl ep0019

This is dedicated to The Shit Times sunday article which has honed one sided reporting down to a fine art. Maybe the MRT is not so crowded when compared to the subways in London, New York and Tokyo, but the article has of course conveniently forgot to mention that the population of said cities is easily double to triple that of singapore and has been in operation longer than the history of our nation.

In times when you can get into trouble by clicking on "wireless network found" ,we just need
notice the 146th conveniently did not mention HK..
ho ho ho…
this i like….
Why compare this and that about Singapore with other countries but suggest that Singapore politics shouldn’t be compared? Think!
The point is not a peak period utilization problem. The problem is not whining. Get real! World Class does not mean packing a train till is sardinized…don’t give in to another proganda sway of people’s mind…the real issue is a comfortable, speedy and frequency ride and not forgetting the fare increament to top up a private company’s already ballooning profits. Think!
You brought into picture what crossed my mind yesterday what I read that article on the States Times. One-sided bullshit as usual, in support of the stance of our moronic hip-hopping MPs that Singaporeans “whine” too much.
Haha. I agree, they would never dare to compare to HK’s MTR.
And hey, they didn’t even mention how you could walk from one train station to another for the London’s tube. Try walking from AMK to Bishan MRT station.
146th is being Ah Q here.
They just compare with the strong points of MRT system and then say Singapore is better.
Always remember, there are
LIES, DAMN LIES AND STATISTICS.
Guess who is THE expert in statistics?
In japan , during peak hour.. the station master will push everyone into the train..and it is packed to the max..u can hardly breathe at times…..but here’s the catch…the train frequency is so incredibily high and the train schedule is kept which means if they said the train will come at 8.03 am…that means it will come at that time..no bulls….(unless someone jumps )…..unlike our self proclaimed world class transport system…
In some countries they fine-tune the train schedule so it comes at designated times. eg Netherlands, Germany. Hurr hurr.
hahah cool! i agree with you totally. stupid shit times. really propaganda and all that shit.
Shit time’ spin is so bloody standard SOP type, always like to use selective type of data to compare.
Same for Forum, One Pro and one against letter, next day, 2-3 more pro letter, give you the impression that more peopel in the street support the policy.
They have no credibility at all, hence the 146th.
It is now claimed the Northeast Line (NEL) is feeling the heat of not enough passengers in The Straits Times’ review today. I thought it was reported not long ago how the NEL broke even earlier than expected! They should really paste that earlier article in front of the reporter’s face. What sin, assuming no one remembers earlier reports! The ability of human mind to recall indeed (both reporter and reader) ….
a bit late to commenting on this issue but it reminds me of this incident years ago when i was still in the uni. in response to repeated complaints about the trains being too crowded etc., they closed off an entire portion of an mrt station to us peasants ( i was there when i happened) to make way for some vip’s to board the train with a bunch of the media types.
then that night i recall watching one of the vip’s being interviewed on-site saying something like, “oh, i’m perfectly happy with the state of the train system. i just took one today during rush hour and it was fine…no problem getting a seat…”
go figure.
[...]  The ST has also in a way, played a part in encouraging such a sentiment. Perhaps it does so in order to be inline with the government, who has also engaged in scorn heaping exercises. notwithstanding the example above. There was once an article by Peh Shing Huei on Democracy, and in that article the virtues of the Singapore system were extolled and the Taiwanese system was derided. Then going back further into the past, several expats were interviewed and all sang praises of the transport system in Singapore, implying therefore that anyone who criticised the public transport system was a whiner with no gratitude, so on so forth. Insane Poly in his Elite Girl comic made mention of the rather one sided article. Given the fact that most Singaporeans rely entirely on the ST for their daily dose of news, it is hardly surprising that after many years of such “indoctrination” one may start to get the idea that hey, Mesa superior to yousa! Yousa all mediocre! Furthemore ST has been known to paint a rosy picture of Singapore at times when the picture was not entirely rosy; this is with reference to the IMF meeting during September 2006 last year, whereby ST reported that the delegates had praises for Singapore while the foreign publications talked about how Singapore was clamping down on CSOs (Molly made a post about this).
