STFU

So the MIWs got their massive ministerial pay hike (not that things were going to turn out any different).

Whoopdedamndo.

Now shut the fuck up and get out of my face.

I don’t want to hear anymore about your justifications and rationalisations. Obviously you guys have no intention of listening to any of the people, so why should we the people listen to you. As someone once said, this has ceased to be a conversation. You tells us what you want and you go ahead and do it whether we the people like it or not. So what’s there to say. So shut the fuck up and enjoy your riches. Just don’t tell me you are doing this for my own good or for the good of the country.

For the past 2 friggin days, the ST has daily devoted 5-8 pages to the MIWs justifications for the minsterial pay hikes. Enough of that already.

Shut the fuck up.

You’ve got your money, but must you also have the last word as well. Take your fucking money and go fucking choke on it. Just shut the fuck up and get out of my face. I am sick of your bullshit.

I knew that things weren’t going to be any different this time, but still the idealist in me were hoping, just hoping maybe for once the MIWs were going to listen to the people this one time. That maybe respect, gratitude and the admiration of an entire nation is worth more than the couple of million dollars they were going to get. Well I guessed wrong.

Sometimes I have dinner at a coffeeshop near my house and there would be this old lady. Hair all white, back bent over with age. And she would be going from table to table collecting the empty drink cans to exchange it for money. Its hard for me to eat looking at her. I’d like to help, but she only wants my empty drink can and not my money. She may be old, she may be poor, but she still have her pride. And I can’t help but wonder, what exactly is our millionaire ministers doing for her and the thousands like her.

Am I exaggerating?

Look around you, the MRT toilets, the hawker centres, the shopping malls. It pains me to see so many old folks cleaning tables, toilets, picking up after us. Is this the so-called first world nation that the MIWs has built and is this why we have to pay them millions upon millions of dollars?

Pay them millions while the old and the poor get $290 a month in public assistance?

Pay them millions while one of them is mulling over the idea of means testing for C class wards in public hospitals.

And their grand masterplan to narrow the widening income gap?

Raise the fucking GST!!!

They gave the same fucking stupid reasons the last time round but looked what happened despite them getting their big fat pay raise. The poor just got poorer and the GST and living costs kept increasing. Meanwhile the rich also got richer.

And they think a good old million dollar pay hike is in order.

And some MPs are actually surprised by the overwhelming negativity of the local internet against the MIWs.

And so they decide to pull some lame stunt to pacify the people. Who gives a shit? You want to donate your money, freeze your pay for 5 days, 5 weeks or 5 years- whatever, I don’t care anymore.

Just shut the fuck up.

I have the exact sentimental about them over the last few days. I used to think that our 148th would never get any more sicker than they did when coming to campaigning for the PAP (a certain Ba don’t know who’s words obviously only apply to brown color, not white), but I was wrong. The magnitude of the propaganda over the last few days really start to irritate me to my boiling limited.

So I have to agree with you here. They should just STFU already. Take their ill-gotten money and go spent in hell or whatever. They aren’t interested in convincing us that they ‘deserve’ the paycheck, they are just doing all the justification for show and to have the last word.

The pay freeze stunt is the lamest one they tried to pull on us so far. Only the stupidest among our population would have takes this lamest stunt in history as a genuine gesture of compassion and goodwill. So what if his payhike is freeze for the next 5 years and donating the hike to charity? He is still drawing an obscene amount of pay even without the hike for the next 5 years and still can afford to live in luxury. Not to mention 10 years down the road, he might be enjoying the obscene pay he already hiked up so much for the post of SM and MM, which is totally reluctant and should not even be allowed to get pay that much.

So really, just STFU already. It is already good enough to show the world that what kind of sheep Sinkaporeans are under the MIW, but at least don’t insult our intelligent further by pulling a lame stunt like that and expect us to be on the ground weeping and tearing over his ‘socialist heart’ benevolence.

Yesterday’s youth struggled against the British,
for a better Singapore of our own.
    Today, we curse their government.

Today’s youth speak out for a better Singapore of our own.
Tomorrow, our descendants may curse their government too.

    History repeats itself.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
What makes us think any of us, and them,
can always make a better difference?

Yesterday, communists in Russia threw out the oppressive Tsar.
    Then they became the oppressors.

Today, I understand dissatisfied Swedish also want out,
their welfare government who upped their quality of life.

Whose side am I on? Yours? Theirs?
Actually, I’m on my own side.
Isn’t that true for each of you?

If you were really thinking of the other side,
you would be singing praises of the pay hike.
That’s not going to happen, isn’t it?

The sad reality down the ages,
and one that also troubles me deeply,
is that there will always be the poor, old & weak,
whom I could also join soon one day,
side by side with the rich, young & powerful.

What makes us think, that what we merely say,
can save everyone, all the time?
Already, I hear so much talk of helplessness already.
Convenient excuses & lip service, aren’t they?

Where are those selfless, altruistic leaders here & now,
who can really give us a better life?
Maybe we should seek out the Jedi Council in
    the Star Wars Old Republic.

I don’t have the full answer.
But I think each of us is part of the eventual answer.
I believe that doing what we can,
makes a more resounding slap on those faces,
that we so much want to put some on.

And I’m not interested in being yet another
    bloody leader or politician.
    I’m just a Singaporean.

    my sentiments exactly…

over the past few days, i’ve come with a conclusion…
the government doesnt listen to us…
but why dun we do something about it?
cos we know we are powerless….
this powerless breeds other feelings… till it leads to apathy…
and of cos things will never change…
    this sucks…
so why am i ranting here?
    i dunno….
    and dun really care anymore…
its sad that we are in this state…
as long as most ppl vote for the PAP, we have no say…
but then again, all this will be forgotten…

    fynyx, your comments:

“Yesterday’s youth struggled against the British,
for a better Singapore of our own.
    Today, we curse their government.

Today’s youth speak out for a better Singapore of our own.
Tomorrow, our descendants may curse their government too.”

    - Times change. people change. If you’ve played AD&D before, alignments change.
i.e., there is no ‘forever-good-guy’ in the world.
    i.e., absolute power corrupts absolutely.
i.e., don’t rest on your laurels.

    “History repeats itself.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
What makes us think any of us, and them,
can always make a better difference?”

    - There is always HOPE of a better difference. HOPE as treasured and upheld so much by “insanepoly”, by me. I am an idealist as well, but that doesn’t mean I’m stupid.

“Yesterday, communists in Russia threw out the oppressive Tsar.
    Then they became the oppressors.”

    - Please refer to my first response.

“Today, I understand dissatisfied Swedish also want out,
their welfare government who upped their quality of life.

Whose side am I on? Yours? Theirs?
Actually, I’m on my own side.
Isn’t that true for each of you?”

    - I would like to think my side is for the side of the people, too. And I would like to think my side is a reasonable side.

“If you were really thinking of the other side,
you would be singing praises of the pay hike.
That’s not going to happen, isn’t it?”

    - If I’m really on the other side, I will not dare to face myself in the mirror. My conscience will burn me up to ashes.

Doesn’t mean I see myself as nobel though. All men make mistakes. But it’s whether you have the conscience to know you’ve made it, and the resolve to resolve.

“The sad reality down the ages,
and one that also troubles me deeply,
is that there will always be the poor, old & weak,
whom I could also join soon one day,
side by side with the rich, young & powerful.”

    - That I agree. And that is the job of the govt NOT to make things worse.

To the govt: If you’re reading this, one word of advice:

Money does NOT solve every problem. Our land may be too small to afford any mistakes (which I have always believed to be the sole reason for all your actions), but maybe can you look yourself in the mirror already?

“What makes us think, that what we merely say,
can save everyone, all the time?
Already, I hear so much talk of helplessness already.
Convenient excuses & lip service, aren’t they?”

    - I stand by my previous remark.

“Where are those selfless, altruistic leaders here & now,
who can really give us a better life?
Maybe we should seek out the Jedi Council in
    the Star Wars Old Republic.

I don’t have the full answer.
But I think each of us is part of the eventual answer.
I believe that doing what we can,
makes a more resounding slap on those faces,
that we so much want to put some on.”

    - I believe we ARE part of the answer. We CAN contribute, but how much? While we try to help each other, do you think those who deserve the slaps will look at us?

“And I’m not interested in being yet another
    bloody leader or politician.
    I’m just a Singaporean. ”

    - Fair to that. I also do not want to become a politician. Only because things will turn sour. That is the case of politics, a very sickening word existing in each and everyone of our lives. But does that mean we have to live with it? Does that mean we can’t make the difference? I long for the day when ‘politics’ is my favourite noun. I am an idealist..

haha. Another govt thing 2 make the ppl unhappy. But we can do nothing about it. Ppl ask why the PAP still win in GE. It’s precisely cus of this, really. They raise the ministerial pay and attract most forms of good potential opposition politicians to their own side. Only those with strong moral values or (sadly) the not-so-good ppl decide to support the opposition. The rest just jump ship to PAP. And so there’re very few good opposition politicians. And so the more “rational” singaporeans who don’t bother to post stuff or vote online who want stable lives vote for PAP to continue stability. The rich also do the same. And so we’re left with the 36%. That’s how the PAP does it

FANTASTIC post. i absolutely concur with your sentiments. What’s the point of debating in parliament if everything’s been settled. What does the govt take the people for? 3-year kids to be pacified? I’m really frustrated with how politics work in Sg. It’s as though the people have no voices, and no matter how much we voice our displeasure or disapproval, the MIW will STILL do whatever they want.
Increase pay by another 1-2-3 million? i don’t think that’s enough for them, how about 10 million in one shot! Save us from hearing/seeing the same ol’ propaganda in the media for the next 10 years.

Whatever. Just get out of my disgruntled, uncaring face.

Well, that’s the thing: it’s NOT about the people. And all this justifications and numbers seem meaningless. May as well put a big nike ad on the front page of ST: Just Do It.

    to STFU:
3 million for PM is peanuts compared with countless CEOs and high executives out there who make even more obscenely large amount of money. i just dont understand why no one ever complained about how much they make against how much they pay their employees. you think that by condemning the government will make you boss pay higher (unless you are the obscene boss). why are so many complaining yet not many put their stakes in real politics? because most of you are just like me, real cowards who only make noise anonymously. but why are you really so unhappy? because you cant get rich and you blame it entirely on the gahment. you really believe that when WP’s Low become the PM, Low will take a pay of annual 100K and then make you 10X richer than you are now? i think he will just make many more people just as poor as i am now. just think carefully what you want and what who will deliver. if you dare put your stakes in real politics, i will vote you to power and see what you can really deliver. else you should just really STFU and stop making more people unhappy just because you are.
i always hear a lot of people always complain about how many poor people there are out there and what miserable life they live, but when i ask them did they ever donate or in any ways try to help the poor, the answer is always no. so what hypocrites they are, think for the poor but never acted for the poor. and you see any opposition party actively do charity work? NO. the opposition party is still full of businessmen and lawyers who just want more power to fill their riches.

We will never win lah, beside we forgets so easily. Sigh** We all know there are still many people out there surviving on minimum wages and trying to make ends meet. Things got a lot worse after the 97 sluggish economic slum, many cut wages never return to its original margin. At the end of the day we ought to know that there is no way to win capitalism, it had happened in many other countries. We can only bite the bullet and carry on living. These old folks has contributed to our society in their younger days and today, they discarded and treated like lepers in the society all for a meagre sum of $290 a month.

Why don’t the ministers try to live on $290 per month and see of they can do it. Isn’t it sad? We are all going to be old someday and if for some reason we lose everything that we work for.. don’t count on the government to take care of you.

It’s basically down to the GE to make our voices count doesn’t it. It’s a choice between stability and our freedom. 66%+ of the population decided to forgo their freedom to ensure they will have a stable life.
I think such stunts by the Gahmen will continue for years to come. Those who don’t bother listening/talking have taken a step in leaving this island. Otherwise they can only attempt to have their voices heard in the GE. The 44% odd who voted for their freedom, I salute you. I want to join you in the next GE.

What’s there to read in there anyway? It only makes you madder every page you flip… so why pay to make yourself angry and spoil your day?

I am amazed at the bull shit opera playing in parliament. I am so fucking sick with all this multimillionaire justifying their never ending greed for more money.

    They say

    1) No Singaporean want to be in politic so we need to lure talents with money.

I say, wtf, u fucking elitist are telling the whole nation you stay because you want the fucking million dollars. You are setting an example to the whole nation that nationalism or pride for nation, to serve the people come at a price. We are too busy following your footsteps, where got time for politics?

    They say,

Oh, it is bad and not logical to link fat pay for ministers and money for the poor. They are different issues.

    I say,

OF COZ they are different issues. Fat million dollars affect their bottomless pockets, money for the poor is after all, money for the poor, they are poor, they shouldn’t afford to spend like millionaires. they have to remain poor for the next few years, so that millionaires ministers can justify more GST hike to help this poor people and their ever fattening pockets.

    They say,

I will donate my increments for the next whatever period to charity.

    I say,

Oh please oh please, there is a tax rebate column in IR8A for donation.

    They say,

Oh we can afford to pay $46 millions for a $220 billion economy.

    I say,

USA economy is US $10 Trillions!! Should Bush be drawing Billions in salary!

    They say,

    Pay well to avoid corruption.

    I say,

The best way to fight corruption is to corrupt openly in parliament and telling the people, “hey, I fucking insist to fatten my pockets because you mud head are no elite to run this country. I am taking from you now and you just believe my crap and get on with your lives.”

[...] While we’re on the topic of Singapore dubious finances, I was wondering were all the money comes from in Singapore, let alone where it goes… It certainly doesn’t go to poorer 20% who have seen a continual erosion of their finances for several years.. This article in the Asia Times goes a long way to answering that first question… [found in Singabloodypore] According to independent financial analysts who spoke with Asia Times Online, Singapore’s outsized surpluses are habitually hidden away off-budget, often through the use of accounting gimmicks that diverge from internationally accepted norms. They note that government-linked companies and investment corporations buy and sell among themselves at undisclosed transfer prices, obscuring their profit and loss profiles. Nor, they note, does the government publish statistics related to its share of overall national savings. In other words, shitloads of money comes in, Government linked companies buy and sell each other without disclosure and the cash disappears… And it never gets to this lady, who after MM quips last week is contemplating the luxury of becoming a maid overseas… This is of course why they can’t contemplate a democratic opposition – a) all these shady deals would be brought into the sun for all to see, and b) all future deals would collapse and shitloads of money would be lost… And c) they’d all go to jail. As Prime Minister Lee revealed last year, the only way they know to govern is to buy people off… I just wish they’d shut the fuck up…. I also chuckle (ironically, bitterly) at the reminder, at the end of the article, of the story about the analyst from Bloomberg… Respected Morgan Stanley economist Andy Xie last year abruptly resigned his position at the firm after an internal e-mail he sent that referred to Singapore as an “economic failure” whose “success came mostly from being the money-laundering center for corrupt Indonesian businessmen and government officials” was published by Bloomberg. The controversial correspondence also said “to sustain its economy, Singapore is building casinos to attract corruption money from China”. The litigious Singaporean government notably never filed charges against Morgan Stanley for making, or Bloomberg for publishing, the allegations. [My emphasis] Wonder if they’ll appreciate my drawing your attention to it again… E@L – doing his best to get kicked out town… btw, in case you han’t noticed, I have just discovered several excellent, local, political blogs, several of which are closing down in despair… Insane Polygons b.Itter s.Weet sym.Phony And Ben??? The question you should be asking is- do you want to live in continual fear of the government. Fearing to speak out for what is right.

“First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
    Then they came for me
and there was no one left
    to speak out for me.”

We go through a mountain of paperwork just to spend on the necessities because we are operating on a tax payers budget, but does that ever get noticed?

We do make mistakes, but is everyone faultless? If you were in the private sector, would you have done the same with limited resources?

For those working in the private sector, your expenditure stems from your client’s money that was disbursed to you without much vengence.

We are doing a service; unconscripted.

How about a willing stint in the public service?

or just no money to buy fast car, no money to buy house with a pool, no money to take a holiday every year, no money to buy PS3, no time to watch soccer and club every nite…..

Why complain now, when the very leaders you voted makes a decision?

So when next election comes, vote wisely.. but i guess the citizen will always STILL chose PAP and again complain when they make decision.

    Just go think about it.

Will the prophecy of our women working as maids come true in the near future? Actually I am very afraid, you know. I have to give more GSTs, damn I said give!! And if the ministers are poach by the private sector, we are doom. So $46 million for a $210 billion economy, are they worth that 2% plus fortune? Or should we give a 100 million to save this country? Tough choice lah. There will never be 2 LKYs or 2 LHLs, you know. Which explains why they are not priceless but pricier. Rare of the rare and only money works in this world. Damning truth.

salute to you, damn right hit straight to the point, our fucking govt care nothing for the citizen. They are damn fuck of our hard earn money. recently wanted to rise their fucking salary but down to one question where do they get the money from ? from us are we suckers? our govt is a motherfuckers especially the fucking old man so MM who the fuck did he think to attract new comer for the govt. if thats the case ok only pay the new comer the increment but why pay those fucking current motherfuckers in the parliment? the LEE’s families want to squeeze every drop of the singapore blood until they happy. Bear in mind LHL is a faggot in army everyone know him as a fag well as there’s a saying like father like son. Our govt have no god damn issue for the old and poor in singapore. It feels like old and poor should not be staying in singapore thats what i look in it. Why is the fucking old man still staying in the govt? he is like a leech sucking dry the money from the singaporean. Bear in mind he was a fucking malaysian. and the most insulting for the chinese is: that old fuck can’t even speak proper chinese. Now what kind of motherfucker can’t speak our own native language.

they rise the taxes, bring up the coe, giving lame fucking excuses in order to bring them selves wealth. We talk this in the public we end up being arrest. Isn’t the pledge says to build a democratic society? base on justice and equality? where the fuck is democracy and the freedom of speech this is not a free country. It like a fucking civilise communist country. You can’t talk openly you can’t do what the govt says. our govt consist’s of 2% freedom fighters fighting for the best. and 98% of mother fuckers who want to slice every singaporeans wallet. education and wealth. so what we have new breed of people joining the govt they can’t do anything cause if they implement new thing those old fuck will not approve it’s like a puppet. Sick of those motherfuckers i wish you lky and those fucking corrupted govt rot in hell those bastard should die. Take a look at the street you see alot of people walking you notice they have something in common and that is to work and pay the govt. It’s seems like we have become a slave of the country instead of the citizen. Do LKY really bring up the singapore ? no, we the people staying in this fucking island fight to become in this state we are. and yet they want a piece of pie. Our govt is full of crap talking about helping singapore is just another fucking excuses, if this post is been seen by the govt and if this post enable the picture i would show the picture of my middle finger to those so called ministers in the fucking govt. fuck you lky and his lackeys

First, I give to the poor, OK???? I also give to GreenPeace and other non-profits. It’s such a low tactic for anothercoward to suggest that if you don’t practise what you preach, you lose the right to preach. Anyone can have an opinion, regardless of what they do, OK?????? You have control over a tiny little country, but you don’t have control over our MINDS,…yet. I’ll tell you why I don’t want to participate in politics and make a difference – it’s because of my conscience. How can I bring myself to join a bunch of elitist, holier-than-thou, delusional, authoritarian, avaricious, full of self-entitlement, nepotic, out-of-touch secretive clique?? Defintion of corruption – misuse of powers for own gain. when you use your powers to reward yourself more money against the wishes of the majority of your constituents, you are already corrupt.

Well written and I am sure that many agrees with you. However, I ain’t so sure that are we going to juz let it STFU and sleep while our poor suffering intensified?? Are we going to forget about it over the next few years?? Or are we able to??

Their motive is to address the “problem” mentioned above. They know very well our sentiment and they are preparing for it. Who mentioned about us over-investing our CPF monie?? Overly invested on our property?? And yet, they are releasing all “knots” to ease loan requirement, be it car or property. THey are raising the minimum CPF limit steadily over the years. WHat are they doing?? “Preserving” both their human capital (us!! But you ain’t at the pinnacle, you are juz one of their base) and monie (of course, it’s ours!!).

The best way for any one of us to help ourselve under current system is to stop hoping and depending on our govt. You should stop taking too much long term commitment and keep your assets as liquid as possible. For business people, you should try to venture out of the country and make your foriegn earning ratio as high as possible. Do something with your CPF monie to make it more liquid too.

Please don’t get me wrong that I am encouraging you to be the “quitter” or such. I ain’t asking you to foresake our own poor countryman who are suffering. However, some of us need to get out of the system before we can help our own countryman.

We have many many singaporean suffering as mentioned by many posts and witnesses we spot everyday. People aound you, real people sufering. My greatest worry is that their suffering will get more intensified while our nation marching towards elitism.
