What Happened To The Singaporean Worked On The Matrix?
I remembered back in 2003, a computer times article caused a major stir among the local CG industry when it revealed one of the Technical Directors was a singaporean who goes by the name of Nickson Fong. A person no less than our PM Lee actually mentioned him by name in a speech to the nation in 2004. Imagine our pride knowing a local has somehow against all odds made it in the Hollywood industry.
“After eight years in the field, he is one of the sought-after veterans of CGI special effects. His film credits range from Godzilla (1998) to this year’s The Matrix Reloaded. He was the effects technical director at Esc Entertainment, the company responsible for most of the visual effects in the Matrix sequels – Reloaded and Revolutions.”- Billy Teo, Comuter Times, 9th July 2003.

So I was watching The Matrix Reloaded again when just out of curiosity I let the credits rolled right to the end. I was especially excited when it came to the effects credit when imagine to my horror, I couldn’t find the name Nickson Fong anywhere.
IT CANNOT BE!!!Â
Its the Straits Times afterall.Â
“No! Emphatically not! Whether in writing news stories or features, properly trained journalists check and double-check their facts, set these in context, work in relevant background information, insist on objectivity and balance, organise their material so their account flows smoothly and logically, and use temperate language unless there is a powerful reason to resort to strong words. Even in offering views, they ensure that the opinions expressed are based on fact, failing which, as any libel lawyer would tell you, what they write cannot be defended as fair comment.” – Leslie Fong (no relation to Nickson Fong), editor of Straits times for 15 years until 2002- when asked if bloggers can be journalists.
I know what happened.
It must be the dastardly americans who erase his name from the credits or maybe I am just old and my eyesight is failing.

Exactly. Well said!
a little googling will reveal that the matrix series is not on his list of works…
Taken from the computer times article:
“The self-acknowledged geek builds his own computers and knows programming languages such as Unix and Linux”
Linux and Unix are operating systems, not programming languages. That guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
hmmm well, according to the article and some other googling, it seems that he worked on the matrix through his company as opposed to being directly involved…
problem solved…
He belongs to one group in the net, they play an underground game and they also write quite good articles. I don’t want to mention them, bc whenever I do, someone either erases, ignores or hammers them no end. However, if you ask them, they should know everything abt him and all.
errrr….I think we all know which group you are referring to in the net. The begin with B rite? And the leader is a really showy guy by the name of D for Duhhhhhh. Hate to admit it, but it’s true, they pau all the creative talent in Singapore and Malaysia for CGI, out of this world stuff. However, very strange leh, very press shy, hardly any news and no information.
I agree if you ask them, they will even roll him out for the a personal interview to clarify the matter – why stumble in the dark when you can stand tall and proud?
Erm… So what happen to him? Still in Hollywood?
The Nickson Fong in the article is the founder of Egg Story (located in Middle Road, Singapore). The company is providing animation and visual effects services to the entertainment industry in US, and involves in many films too.

Always read in depth when u interpret ST reports. It literally said that Person A belong to Company P AND Company P produced Movie X.
This does not equate to Person A was involved in producing Movie X.

No, the reporter DO NOT know what he is writing. I believe that Mr Nickson Fong would know it as he has the technical IT training, but I would not say the same for Mr Lesile Fong.
Even IMDB has no records. Strange leh.
